Our base is located at the Tweedsmuir Lodge in the drier and sunnier eastern end of the Bella Coola Valley within Tweedsmuir Park. This is the largest provincial park in British Columbia. This base is 150 kilometres (90 miles) from the open ocean and immediately to the east is the high Chilcotin Plateau.

This land is, by tradition, the Nuxalk First Nation's tribal territory and has been inhabited by the Nuxalk people for thousands of years. Bella Coola is also the ending point for the first European crossing of the North American continent, accomplished by Sir Alexander MacKenzie in 1793.
The valley is unique in its natural beauty, temperate climate, and sparse population. Bella Coola is also famous for its wildlife, rivers, and fish species.
